The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance, the American fantasy series produced by Netflix and The Jim Henson Company. It is a prequel to the 1982 Jim Henson film named The Dark Crytal. Set in the fictional world of ‘Thra’ created for the film, the series revolves around three Gelflings- Rian, Brea, and Deet. They find out about a secret behind their customarily worshipped rulers Skeksis, that threatens the entire planet and hence inspires a rebellion. The first season of the series premiered on August 30th, 2019. However, it has now been canceled as of updates in September 2020.
Is there any chance of Season 2?
After a year of release of the first season and despite an Emmy and countless appreciation from critics and audience, Netflix has decided to drop the series.
It came with surprise to us that the series has been canceled. As by the end of the first season it was evident that much of the story is yet to be unraveled. Moreover, the series co-creator Jeffrey Addiss had previously told that they were ready with the story of the next season. Further, the other created, Will Matthews hinted towards more than just two seasons. However, looks like that’s not gonna happen now.
So, I wouldn’t just say that it has no chance of getting renewed. It still has a chance if some other streaming service takes it. Other than that I do not think it can be renewed.
Why did Netflix cancel it?
Well, the main reason behind the cancellation is more or less money. The expensive nature of the show just made it difficult for Netflix to continue in such viewing figures. Roughly about 2500 people were instated on the project. Heres the details released by Netflix.
Dark Crystal: The Age of Resistance — By The Numbers
More than 170 puppets were used
Over 70 different species were created
83 puppeteers & 59 voice artists bring them to life
And, in total, more than 2,500 people worked on the 10 episodes that are now streaming! pic.twitter.com/b2joOae1xs— Netflix (@netflix) August 30, 2019
Moreover, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the show was referred to as ‘An Expensive Disappointment’. So, more or less that is it.
